Editorial Naija

In 2018 Nigeria and Nike set the the world ablaze with the Naija World Cup kit, being a modern day favourite when it comes to football kits. This is also sparked a lot of infusion between football and culture. It was a brave and bold approach by the Nike design team going into the Russia World Cup. It seems like Nike is paying more attention to the Nigerian Federation now and not just doing template designs, we see this in the new 2020 kit.

Nike has gone for a more traditional approach with the home kit taking inspiration from the agbada robe. With the side having a beautiful cloth like pattern, “ the pattern was hand drawn and is highly symbolic of Nigerian heritage with nods to nobility and family”. The kit was released during the Nike 2020 Forum, which I personally found weird, sports kits being premired on a fashion runway to celebrities. With many African diasporas around the world, we’ve seen plenty of people rocking the Naija kit from Lagos to London, Soweto to São Paulo.

One of the dopest lookbooks and editorials comes from Jeferson Delgado and stylist MlkJuninho,
shot in São Paulo.‘Accompanied by the expression that refers to the optimism of a new generation
in relation to Nigeria, the duo brought their identity in the editorial with a hand-selected casting that represented the rare beauty of the country.’
